Ballpark Bets: Wins, Total Bases, Dinger of the Day
Cubs Money line (+109)
This one is lofty, but I’m riding the trend. The Phillies have the most favorable matchup in regards to pitching. Zack Wheeler is an ace and Matthew Boyd (while very good this season), isn’t Wheeler. However, the Phillies have been playing a bad brand of baseball. They’ve been out scored 28-9 by the Brewers and are coming off a demoralizing sweep by the Pirates. The Cubs are a very good team. It’s a safe bet for an underdog pick.
O’Neil Cruz 2+ Total Bases (+110)
He is one of the most electric players to watch and the best bat on the Pirates. The Pirates offense is abysmal, but Cruz keeps on raking. He has 93 total bases on the year and he is taking on a rookie in Eury Perez who is making his debut. Cruz has been lethal against right handed pitchers this season. He has 38 hits, with 11 leaving the park and also having seven doubles. I like these odds.
Brayan Bello over 1.5 Walks (-205)
This one does seem a bit likely. Bello had a walks issue this season and isn’t commanding the baseball entirely well. He is taking on a Rays team who has been on fire lately, especially at the plate. Since May 20, they are fourth in average, but have a .329 OBP which ranks ninth. This is a game where Bello needs to be sharp, but having two walks isn’t out of the question.
Dinger of the Day
Manny Machado (+390)
At home. Against Dustin May. One of the top bays for this Padres team goes yard to help kick off this series.
