Anthony Volpe Proved To The World That Aaron Judge Is Human
Aaron Judge is the best player in baseball right now, there’s no denying that. With a stat-line consisting of a .361 BA (1st), 32 HRs (2nd), 71 RBIs (5th), and a 1.202 OPS (1st), the New York Yankees right fielder is SURELY in the running for another MVP this season. (Even though I’d rather have THE BIG DUMPA take home the crown).
But yesterday, in the team’s crosstown showdown against the New York Mets, the 6x All-Star unfortunately became the center of one of the biggest blunders of the season for the Yanks. And it was all at the hands of his own teammate, Anthony Volpe.

This……this wasn’t a good look for the 24-year old shortstop. As someone who has seen his fair share of struggles over the last three seasons, the LAST THING that Volpe needed was to hit the “golden boy” of the league with an errant throw. The LAST THING he needed to do……was to peg “Superman” in the dome with a meaningless heave.
The worst part about it? It’s the fact that this debacle occurred between innings for New York, in a game where they ended up getting DECIMATED by their crosstown rivals by a score of 12-6. This was the second straight loss in the ‘Subway Series’ for the “Bronx Bombers,” and their sixth straight loss overall as a team.
It was a devastating blow for the Yankees, and the ego of Anthony Volpe. I mean; could you IMAGINE hitting the reigning MVP, and one of the best players in the league, with a ball that wasn’t even live? Oh…..and that “reigning league MVP” just so happens to be ON YOUR TEAM, and is one of the main reasons why your squad isn’t DEEPER in the basement of your division?
That…..that has to be one of the biggest “oh lord, I’m done” moments in the entire world. If I was in Volpe’s shoes at that moment, I would be straining to hold in as much “dookie” as possible. I get that it was an accident, but the mere THOUGHT of striking a teammate like Judge with a meaningless toss would cause me to lose my ever-loving mind.
He ruined the majesty of the moment, and proved to the world that Judge is INDEED human and not a robot. But thankfully for Volpe, and all Yankees fans, it wasn’t that serious of an injury. It was just something that a mere band-aid near the temple was all that was needed to rectify the situation.

But FOR THE FUTURE……I think it’s safe to say that Volpe’s going to be a little more careful around #99 moving forward. He’s the face that runs the place for a reason. If he has another slip up like that, then OH BOY! WHO KNOWS what will happen.
In the end though…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
