AEW Summer Blockbuster: Kazuchika Okada Attacks Kenny Omega

Just when it seems like a wrestling contract signing will end peacefully, Don Callis shows up.

Last night on AEW’s four-hour Summer Blockbuster from Portland, Oregon, International champion Kenny Omega and Continental champion Kazuchika Okada signed for a title unification match at All In Texas on July 12.

A video package showed highlights of their amazing four-match series in New Japan Pro Wrestling. AEW has been building to this match for over a year.

After the signing, Don Callis complained that one of his men should be involved in the match. It turns out that he had nothing to complain about, as Okada jumped Omega from behind and joined Callis.

Okada used a police baton to attack Omega’s midsection, and he dropped a pair of top-rope elbows as well. Omega went to the hospital with internal bleeding.

The segment bridged the first two hours of the show (Dynamite) and the second two hours (Collision).

DYNAMITE

Will Ospreay battled Swerve Strickland to a 30-minute draw to open the show. The Death Riders and The Young Bucks attacked both men after the match.

Mexican legend Mistico (who wrestled as Sin Cara in WWE) defeated Blake Christian. Mistico will face MJF next week at Grand Slam Mexico.

MJF teamed with Hurt Syndicate partners Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin to defeat Speedball Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight & Mascara Dorada.

The Death Riders attacked “Hangman” Adam Page and dragged him to the ring, since he is the next challenger for Jon Moxley’s AEW World title. The Opps made the save.

Tay Melo returned from a two-year absence, teaming with Anna Jay to defeat Penelope Ford & Megan Bayne.

COLLISION

Kyle Fletcher defeated “The Five-Tool Player” Anthony Bowens after a brainbuster. Fletcher is targeting Adam Cole’s TNT championship.

AEW women’s champion “Timeless” Toni Storm defeated Julia Hart in a non-title match.

Mercedes Mone, who already holds five global championships and will face Storm at All In Texas, challenged CMLL women’s champion Zeuxis for Grand Slam Mexico.

Willow Nightingale, Mark Briscoe & Tomohiro Ishii beat Taya Valkyrie & MxM Collection.

Ring Of Honor champion Bandido defeated The Beast Mortos in a non-title match.

“The Toxic Spider” Thekla forced Queen Aminata to submit to the Death Trap choke.

The Don Callis Family team of Konosuke Takeshita, Josh Alexander, Hechicero & Lance Archer closed the show with a win over Daniel Garcia & Paragon (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong).
