AEW Forbidden Door: Death Riders Wipe Out Will Ospreay After Losing Steel Cage Match
Will Ospreay told his fans that he would need to take time off after Forbidden Door to fix his injured neck.
The Death Riders made sure that Ospreay would be out for a long time.
The main event of Sunday’s pay-per-view in London was a Lights Out Steel Cage match.
Ospreay teamed with Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Darby Allin & Hiroshi Tanahashi to face The Young Bucks, Gabe Kidd & The Death Riders (Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli).
Tanahashi, who is on a John Cena-like retirement tour, pinned Matt Jackson after a High Fly Flow frog splash.
Ospreay’s teammates hugged him, and the show seemed to end. But the Death Riders attacked, and Moxley hit Ospreay with several “Paradigm Shift” DDTs.
Despite all of this violence, this match featured some comedy. The Young Bucks had asked the production team to play their old music and to fill a bag with a dangerous weapon under the ring.
So, the Bucks came out to “MMMBop” by Hanson, and the bag was filled with gummy bears.
ANOTHER BEATDOWN
Swerve Strickland may be joining Ospreay on the injured list. He lost to Unified champion Kazuchika Okada.
After the match, the Don Callis Family destroyed Swerve’s knee, as Wardlow returned from a long absence to join the Family.
“Timeless” Toni Storm defeated Athena to retain the AEW women’s championship with the TCM Chicken Wing submission hold.
“Hangman” Adam Page defeated MJF to retain the AEW men’s championship. MJF still has a title match contract, but AEW boss Tony Khan said MJF must give a week’s notice before activating it.
NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS
Brody King & Bandido won the AEW tag team championship over FTR and previous champions The Hurt Syndicate.
Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Nigel McGuinness to retain the IWGP (New Japan) World championship.
“Nine Belts” Mercedes Mone hung onto the TBS title with a win over Alex Windsor, Persephone, and Bozilla.
Kyle Fletcher retained the TNT championship by defeating Hiromu Takahashi.
“The Rated-R Superstar” Adam Copeland teamed with Christian Cage for the first time in 14 years. They defeated Kip Sabian & Killswitch.
ZERO HOUR PRE-SHOW
Paragon (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) teamed with Yuya Uemura & El Desperado to defeat CRU (Lio Rush & Action Andretti), Hechicero & Josh Alexander.
Ricochet & Gates of Agony defeated JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & Speedball Mike Bailey) & Michael Oku.
Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander were not on the same page, so they lost their match along with Queen Aminata & Harley Cameron against The Triangle of Madness & Megan Bayne.
The Opps retained the AEW trios championship with a win over the Bullet Club War Dogs.
