AEW Dynamite: Wild Steel Cage Match Sets Up Anarchy in the Arena
A steel cage is supposed to prevent other wrestlers from getting involved in the match. Last night’s AEW World title match between Jon Moxley and Samoa Joe was the exception to that rule.
After Moxley and Joe battered each other in a bloody brawl, the Death Riders brawled with The Opps at ringside.
A mystery man in a hoodie slid the briefcase containing the World title into the cage, and Moxley bashed Joe with it to retain the championship.
A huge brawl ensued involving Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, and Speedball Mike Bailey on Joe’s side, and The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada on Moxley’s side.
The masked man was Gabe Kidd from New Japan Pro Wrestling. The brawl was a preview of Anarchy in the Arena at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view on May 25.
HE HURTS PEOPLE
MJF finally got approval from all three members of The Hurt Syndicate. He will sign a contract to join the group next week.
Before the match, Syndicate members Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin defeated Top Flight in a non-title match.
Will Ospreay and “Hangman” Adam Page, who will face each other in the Owen Hart Cup finals at Double or Nothing, teamed up to beat Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita.
Page and Ospreay hit their respective finishers (Buckshot Lariat and Hidden Blade) on Alexander at the same time for the win.
Ricochet defeated Zack Gowen, who was wrestling on national TV for the first time in over 20 years.
Gowen used his prosthetic leg as a weapon but missed the one-legged moonsault from the top rope. Ricochet hit the Spirit Gun for the victory.
WOMEN’S TITLE MADNESS
“Timeless” Toni Storm lost a four-way eliminator match, as Mina Shirakawa pinned her. The other two wrestlers were AZM and Chicago’s own Skye Blue, who was returning from a broken ankle.
Mina, who has officially joined the AEW roster, will get a shot at Storm’s AEW women’s title at Double or Nothing.
After the match, Mercedes Mone attacked AZM. “The CEO” was angry that AZM had pinned Mina for Mone’s New Japan Strong women’s title.
Shouldn’t she be mad at Mina?
