Across the Rokuniverse: Cleveland Guardians Offense Lays Nationally Televised Egg

Baseball fans who tuned into Roku’s Sunday Leadoff game were treated to the play-by-play of Tom Hamilton, who will go into the Baseball Hall of Fame next month.

They didn’t get much of a treat from the Cleveland Guardians, who lost their fourth straight game by a 7-0 score to the St. Louis Cardinals.

MAKE ROOM FOR GORMAN

Nolan Gorman blasted a three-run home run in the first inning off Cleveland starter Logan Allen (5-6).

To his credit, Allen settled down and dominated the Cardinals for the rest of his six-inning tenure.

Unfortunately, he had no help from the Guardians offense, which mustered only three hits against Michael Liberatore (6-6) and three relievers.

IT GETS WORSE

Cleveland shortstop Gabriel Arias suffered a horrific-looking leg injury while chasing a ground ball in the third inning. Somehow, he only suffered a sprained ankle.

Hunter Gaddis also had a rough day. He gave up a two-run homer to Victor Scott II in the seventh.

Gaddis was also charged with a run when Pedro Pages hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

St. Louis scored its final run in the eighth when Tim Herrin gave up an RBI single to Garrett Hampson.

Nolan Arenado recorded his 1900th career hit and 400th double. Cleveland is the only team he hasn’t homered against, and he surprisingly didn’t do it this weekend.

TAKE A BREATHER

The Guardians will take a much-needed day off today. They will travel to Wrigley Field for a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

Tuesday’s game will also be nationally televised, this time on TBS at 8:05 p.m. Gavin Williams (5-3) will start for Cleveland against former Guardian Matthew Boyd (7-3) for the Cubs.
