A Look at a Potential NFL Flag Football Offensive Team for 2028 Olympics
It is official — the NFL will participate in flag football when it makes its Olympic debut in 2028.
A vote was approved on Tuesday that allows NFL player participation in the 2028 Olympic Games. Owners will allow up to one member of the team to represent the U.S. in the event.
It will be a five-on-five format on the field. Each team will be loaded with a quarterback, wide receiver, and running back offensively, along with a center that can snap the ball and go out for a pass.
Defensively, there will be a pass rusher, defensive back, and safety. The rusher can get after the quarterback from seven yards out.
This got us thinkings. What would the perfect NFL Flag Football team look like for the 2028 Summer Games?
Quarterback: Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders: Daniels is a dual-threat with great speed and athleticism. That will play well in this format. With his accuracy and ability to run, Daniels makes for the perfect signal caller.
Running Back: Jahmyr, Gibbs, Detroit Lions; De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins; Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
These are white options to man the backfield. All selections will be in their mid-20’s entering the prime of their careers. Achane has become one of the best pass catchers out of the backfield while Gibbs is a unicorn in terms of his burst with the ball in his hands.
Wide Receiver: Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings; Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals
There is no doubt that the best options in flag would be the two best receivers in the game. Both Jefferson and Chase would reunite for the first time since their LSU days. There would be no other duo that brings more excitement and explosiveness to the outside. This would make the U.S. team unguardable at receiver.
Other Options: Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens; Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas raiders; Malik Nabers, New York Giants; Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams
