5 Time NBA All-Star John Wall Officially Retires
After 11 NBA seasons, star point guard John Wall is officially hanging up his sneakers and ending his comeback attempt.
It’s been more than two years since Wall last appeared in an NBA game. In a social media post, he said, “I gave this game everything I had”.
Wall will retire with impressive career averages of 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals, while shooting 32.2% from three-point range.
Following a strong high school career and a standout tenure at Kentucky, the Wizards made Wall the number one overall pick in the 2010 draft.
The next nine seasons in DC would turn Wall into a franchise icon as he averaged 19 points and 9.2 assists per game while earning each of his five all-star nods.
In December of 2020, Wall was part of a blockbuster trade that sent him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook, in hopes that he would pair with James Harden to lead Houston deep in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, things did not come to fruition as Harden was traded to the Brooklyn Nets later that season, and Wall finished the season in Houston, averaging 20.6 points per game on a team that finished the shortened season with a record of 17-55.
After sitting out the next season, Wall joined the LA Clippers in 2022-2023, where he played a bench role, putting up 11.4 points.
