WWE Raw Brings ECW-Style Brawl Home to Philadelphia

Paul Heyman invoked the names of Extreme Championship Wrestling legends as he issued a challenge on last night’s Raw in Philadelphia.

Heyman, who led ECW’s countercultural wrestling movement in the 1990s, challenged Jey Uso to an Extreme Rules match against Bron Breakker.

In doing so, he called up memories of The Sandman, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, New Jack, The Dudley Boyz, and “the late, great Tommy Dreamer.”

Heyman admitted that Dreamer wasn’t dead, “but he should be.”

The match was as chaotic as you would expect. Seth Rollins and Bronson Reed interfered on Breakker’s behalf, so LA Knight and CM Punk came to help.

Finally, Roman Reigns turned the tide, and Uso pinned Breakker after a top-rope Uso Splash through a table.

IYO AND FRIENDS

Iyo Sky once again asked The Kabuki Warriors (Kairi Sane & Asuka) not to help her against The Judgment Day.

Sky was wrestling Raquel Rodriguez. When Roxanne Perez interfered, Rhea Ripley came to the rescue and Sky won after a moonsault.

After the match, Asuka was angry that Ripley was allowed to help Sky, and the Warriors weren’t.

MORE JUDGMENT DAY

World tag team champions Finn Balor & JD McDonagh beat Dragon Lee & Mr. Iguana after an assist from Judgment Day teammate Dominik Mysterio.

El Hijo Del Vikingo attacked Dirty Dom, who will be Vikingo’s next challenger for the AAA Mega championship at Worlds Collide on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas.

WHO CAN BEAT BECKY?

Women’s Intercontinental champion Becky Lynch beat Maxxine Dupri last week and Natalya this week.

Lynch attacked Maxxine after beating Natalya, so Nikki Bella came to the ring and hit Becky with Rack Attack 2.0.

BABY ON THE WAY

Naomi announced that she is pregnant, so she must relinquish the World women’s title. Congratulations to her and her husband, Jimmy Uso.

Stephanie Vaquer was supposed to challenge Naomi for the title at Clash in Paris on Aug. 31 after winning the Evolution battle royale.

Next week, Raw will take place in Birmingham, England, with a special start time of 3 p.m. Eastern.
