“Bad” Rangers Offense Scores Just 2 Runs On 4 Hits In 3-2 Loss To D-Backs

After last night’s thrilling walk-off win, it felt like the Texas Rangers had some momentum after their four-game losing skid was snapped.

Unfortunately for Texas, that momentum was only as good as they played on Tuesday night at Globe Life Field, and their level of play did not come close to the highs of Monday night.

Following Arizona starter Anthony DeSclsfani exiting the game after just three innings, the Rangers had a big opportunity to see a lot of a struggling Diamondbacks bullpen.

However, that opportunity didn’t turn into results as the Rangers mustered just one hit against the Arizona pen in a tough 3-2 loss.

“We were just bad,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said when talking about his team’s offensive performance.

Texas manufactured two runs in the game’s first three innings to claim a 2-1 lead that would hold for much of the night.

Much of the reason for that was the strong performance of Jack Leiter, who went 5 innings and allowed just 1 run.

“Jack competed well, he worked hard,” Bochy said. “He found a way to get five innings, one run, so a gutty effort by him. He was brilliant at times, and then he would lose it a little bit, but he kept it under control and kept it at one run”.

In the 7th inning, it was the Rangers defense that surprisingly cost them the lead after being nearly lights out the entire season.

Robert Garcia, who was on the mound, couldn’t cleanly field a comebacker and made a throwing error on a behind-the-back flip after it bounced away from him, putting the D-Backs’ leadoff batter on second base.

With the very next batter at the plate, 3rd baseman Josh Jung couldn’t field a bunt, setting Arizona up with two runners on and no one out, which would eventually lead to an RBI single off the bat of Ketel Marte.

In the 9th, Marte would hurt the Rangers again as he blasted what would end up as a game-winning home run against Danny Coulombe, who had yet to allow a home run the entire season.

Despite that, the clutch home run and the lack of defense in the 7th, the Rangers know the game wasn’t lost by either of those things.

“We gotta swing the bats,” Bochy said. “That was one of our worst games; we were bad tonight, no getting around it”.
