I Need An Owen Caissie Promotion More Than I Need Water

The Chicago Cubs’ offense has been a bit of a travesty over the past number of months. Hell, the entire team has been a shell of what it once was; going 5-5 in their last 10, and 10-10 in their last 20. This mediocre stretch has done a number on this team’s place in the NL Central, dropping them five games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot in the division.

It has been an absolute dog-fight just for this team to stay alive. They need some kind of a spark to try and get them back on the right track. So…….why not bring up someone like Owen Caissie?

Caissie, the Canadian born lefty, is currently the #1 overall prospect in the Chicago Cubs’ farm system. The 23-year old outfielder is a pivotal part of this organization’s crop of bright-young stars, which includes the likes of current 3B Matt Shaw, as well as C Moises Ballesteros and RHP Jaxson Wiggins. He has been a top performer for Triple-A Iowa, posting a stat-line consisting of;

.287 BA, 21 HR, 50 RBI, .386 OBP, .950 OPS

He is a monumental piece of this organization’s future, which was made prevalent after a disastrous trade deadline by Jed Hoyer and co. Neither Caissie, nor any other top prospect, was moved to help bolster this lineup this season. The front office felt like picking from the ‘bargain bin‘ of guys on the block was more than enough to set this team up fro the rest of the season.

So because of that……why don’t we give the kid from Canada a chance? These bats have only averaged 4.25 runs per game over the past 20 games (17th in the league). They need some kind of a spark. They need a swift kick in the keester to help get them back on track.

Now, for the record……I’m not saying that the former San Diego Padres’ draft pick is going to come in and outplay everyone for an every day spot. That would be silly. But bring him up, and let him switch in and out to give some of the struggling outfielders a rest. Let him get a taste of the bright lights for a bit, so that the vets can try to get their heads right. He could be the monkey wrench in the equation, to help make Craig Counsell’s bunch feel a lot less stale.

And if they need to move someone to get him there…..DFA JON BERTI!!! The guy isn’t doing much on the bench. Make room for someone that is going to be here for some time, and who will actually contribute.

But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
