Cleveland Guardians Topple Chicago White Sox for Fourth Straight Win
Tanner Bibee walked to the mound in the bottom of the first inning with a 5-0 lead.
That’s usually a recipe for success, and the Cleveland Guardians cruised to a 9-5 win over the Chicago White Sox last night at Rate Field.
The Guardians have won four straight games.
Bibee stuck around until the sixth inning and gave up four runs. He improved his record to 8-9.
BUNCHES OF RUNS
Carlos Santana started the party with a two-run double to score Daniel Schneemann and Jose Ramirez.
Cleveland loaded the bases, and CJ Kayfus unloaded them with a double to put Cleveland up 5-0 in the top of the first.
Santana added to the lead with an RBI single to score Kyle Manzardo in the third inning.
The White Sox cut the advantage to 6-1 when third baseman Brooks Baldwin hit a solo homer off Bibee.
The Guardians scored three times in an unusual fourth inning. Kayfus scored on a balk.
Schneeman singled to score Brayan Rocchio, and Santana walked with the bases loaded.
All nine runs came at the expense of former Guardian Aaron Civale.
He started the season with the Milwaukee Brewers (71-44). Civale wasn’t happy about going to the bullpen, so they traded him to the White Sox (42-74).
Chicago scored three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh. Erik Sabrowski and Cade Smith shut down the Sox in the final two innings.
STRIVE FOR FIVE
The Guardians will try for their fifth straight win tonight at 7:10 Eastern.
Joey Cantillo (2-2) will start for Cleveland against Sean Burke (4-8) for the White Sox.
