WWE SummerSlam 2025 Preview: A Two-Night Spectacle

For the first time ever, SummerSlam is a two-night spectacle at MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Jets and Giants. In the Triple H era, he’s made these events feel larger than life and we’ll see why they had to make the event an entire weekend experience.

Here is what you need to know for SummerSlam this weekend.

NIGHT ONE

Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed

This match could theoretically be the main event of Night 1 of SummerSlam, but I can see it opening the show. Roman Reigns is one of the biggest draws and Jey Uso has truly earned his nickname “Main Event” for his run with the World Heavyweight Championship this year. While some reports suggested we were going to have Roman Reigns against Seth Rollins, an unexpected knee injury at Saturday Night’s Main Event has put Mr. Money in the Bank on the sidelines. But with this comes a great opportunity for young upstarts Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, under the tutelage of Paul Heyman.

Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed are going to have a bright future in WWE, but this isn’t their time quite yet. While Jey Uso could eat the pin, I see it more likely for Roman Reigns and Jey Uso to pin Bronson Reed and move on.

Karrion Kross vs. Sami Zayn

Kross is getting two consecutive opportunities on a premium live event against Sami Zayn. Zayn knows all too well how long it takes to get over in the business, but Kross is finally gaining endearment from the fans and it’s led to him being on the card this weekend. The stakes are pretty corny and feels like a marriage disagreement. If Kross wins, Sami Zayn has to admit that Kross was right. On the contrary, if Kross loses, he has to admit he was wrong.

I can’t imagine Sami Zayn turning heel due to his interactions with Karrion Kross, but Kross doesn’t need a victory with his character, which makes me think Zayn goes over at SummerSlam while Kross has contract negotiations behind the scenes.

Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul

What’s a big wrestling event without the involvement of celebrities? This match was in jeopardy with Drew McIntyre’s travel issues, but those have been resolved in time for McIntyre to compete in New York on Saturday.

Either way, this is a filler match to attract fans of Logan Paul and Jelly Roll. If you don’t believe this match ends with an RKO and the classic pose, I don’t know what to tell you.

Judgment Day vs. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss

Roxanne Perez has stepped up in the place of the injured Liv Morgan to defend the Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Raquel Rodriguez, but the unlikely pairing of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss has been quite entertaining. It was rumored the original idea was for Flair and Bliss to square off at SummerSlam, but the duo has caught on with social media and they’re running with it.

Whenever there is lightning in a bottle with mix-and-match tag teams, they see how far the momentum will take them. Expect the titles to change hands at SummerSlam.

Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill

Jade Cargill won the Queen of the Ring Tournament in Saudi Arabia to claim a title opportunity at SummerSlam. While this would have been the perfect opportunity for Naomi to cash in, her arch nemesis is defending her title on Night 2 and we could potentially see Cargill and Naomi simultaneously as champions.

I believe it’s too soon for Cargill to hold the WWE Women’s Championship, and I’m not convinced this match will go 15-20 minutes. Expect Stratton to retain in New York.

Gunther vs. CM Punk

While the Roman Reigns and Jey Uso match could main event Night 1, I personally believe it will be CM Punk main eventing with the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. What better way to stick it to AEW than for CM Punk to main event Night 1 while Cody Rhodes main events Night 2? Not just at WrestleMania, but SummerSlam as well.

Gunther got the championship to retire Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July, but this would have been a perfect time for a healthy Seth Rollins to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to upset CM Punk and continue that never-ending rivalry. However, I just see Gunther getting a big win under his belt by making CM Punk “go to sleep” in the middle of the ring with a classic sleeperhold.

NIGHT TWO

Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Iyo Sky

As we mentioned, Naomi cashing in at WWE Evolution was a shock and perhaps a missed opportunity to do something special on Night 1 with Jade Cargill’s title opportunity. Instead, Naomi is inserted into Bianca Belair’s place for this WrestleMania rematch at SummerSlam for the Women’s World Championship.

It would be a mistake for Naomi to drop the championship this soon. While Ripley or Sky could represent the Raw brand well, we need to see how much traction this long-awaited run for Naomi can go for.

TLC Tag Match

The Wyatt Sicks have been underutilized ever since their debut last year, whether because of injuries or creative issues. They’re going to defend the titles in a chaotic six-pack Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match against DIY, Fraxiom, the Motor City Machine Guns, the Street Profits, and the team of Andrade and Rey Fenix. I almost feel like there needs to be a four-way split on the screen to capture all the action as it unfolds.

Many fans criticized the TLC Match this spring not being on the WrestleMania card, but they stole the show and earned a spot at this year’s SummerSlam for not only themselves, but also additional tag teams. While this would be the perfect chance to put the titles on someone else and not make the Wyatt Sicks look weak in a transition, I believe it’s too soon for the Wyatt Sicks to lose the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Dominik Mysterio vs. AJ Styles

Dominik Mysterio is on another level with competing for the AAA Mega Championship at TripleMania, but he’s defending his Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles, who is coming off a special return at TNA Slammiversary just a week ago.

For the trajectories of their careers, and the possibility of Mysterio being a double champion, it’s important for Dirty Dom to beat a future Hall of Famer in AJ Styles and begin cementing his legacy as he outgrows the Judgment Day.

Jacob Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa inside a Steel Cage

Solo Sikoa was clearly jealous of the ascent for The Samoan Werewolf, enough to snatch the United States Championship from him with the debuting Hikuleo. Now that Solo Sikoa has his “My Family Tree” in his corner, we needed a cage to keep this somewhat fair… but it’s WWE, and it’s never fair.

I’m excited to see Jacob Fatu in a Steel Cage Match and his athletic abilities on full display with the intensity and creativity. Sikoa is going to play the heel role well in this match, but I could see Solo Sikoa’s family getting involved to keep the United States Championship with Sikoa.

Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria in a No DQ, No Count-Out Match

Lynch and Valkyria are going to have a feud that lasts for the rest of their careers due to their Irish roots. Valkyria beat Lynch for the NXT Women’s Championship. Lynch returned the favor by taking the Women’s Intercontinental Championship off Lyra, where this newfound attitude has rejuvenated Becky Lynch’s character.

If Lynch wins, Valkyria can never challenge for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship while Becky Lynch holds the belt. While this looks like a great last chance effort for Valkyria to overcome, we can see Valkyria help elevate other talent as she pushes for Lynch to lose the championship in the future. For that reason, and with Lynch working with other women on the roster, I see “The Man” retaining at SummerSlam.

John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes in a Street Fight

SummerSlam is known for WrestleMania rematches. While this might be taking place sooner than expected, Rhodes could recapture the WWE Championship from a heel John Cena. A Street Fight could open the door for anything to happen as Cena tries to escape out the back door to keep his championship from the rest of the business.

It’s really up to what WWE wants to do with Cena. Do they want to tell a redemption arc over the final four months of his career, or do they want to have him champion his entire run until the final night? It’s all up to creative, but I could see Cena finding some way to retain the WWE Championship.
