Kyle Manzado Homers Twice as Cleveland Guardians Pound Colorado Rockies

Kyle Manzardo and Logan Allen led the Cleveland Guardians to a 10-4 demolition of the Colorado Rockies last night at Progressive Field.

Manzardo hit a pair of home runs to lead a 15-hit attack. All nine starters got at least one hit.

Allen pitched seven strong innings to improve his record to 7-9.

It would have been nice if the Guardians had done this on Monday night instead of losing 8-6, but Hall of Fame radio announcer Tom Hamilton made a good point.

He said Monday was a “day of mourning” in the locker room after the Emmanuel Clase suspension.

If the Guardians can beat the Rockies tonight, they can pull back to a .500 record just before tomorrow’s trade deadline. They are 3.5 games out of the final playoff spot.

HIT PARADE

Gabriel Arias started the party with a first-inning single that scored Steven Kwan and Daniel Schneemann.

David Fry scored on an error by Colorado left fielder Jordan Beck to improve Cleveland’s lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

Manzardo hit a two-run homer in the fourth, followed by Brayan Rocchio’s two-run triple. Rocchio’s hitting has improved since he returned from the minor leagues.

Colorado got on the scoreboard in the fourth when Beck hit a solo homer to cut the Guardians’ lead to 7-1.

Cleveland loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and scored on a single by Nolan Jones.

Steven Kwan added an RBI single in the fifth, and Manzardo finished the barrage with a solo homer in the sixth to put Cleveland on top 10-1.

Colorado scored single runs in the last three innings, including solo homers by Michael Toglia and Kyle Farmer.

LET’S DO IT AGAIN

Kolby Allard (2-1) will make his second start of the year tonight at 6:40 p.m. Kyle Freeland (2-10) will take the mound for the Rockies.
