Rangers Recall Josh Jung, Place Chris Martin On 15 Day IL In Flurry Of Moves
The Texas Rangers had no shortage of roster moves before their series opener against the Athletics at Globe Life Field on Monday night.
Texas announced that Josh Jung would be recalled from AAA Round Rock following his demotion on July 2nd.
Jung had a base hit in 7 of his 8 games with the Express, including two home runs, two doubles, and four RBI.
Bruce Bochy said that Jung had “been working hard” and that, due to the impending string of left-handed starters the Rangers are facing, it would be valuable to have him with the team.
In addition to Jung, infielder/outfielder Michael Helman and RHP Cole Winn have also been called up from Round Rock.
To make room for Helman and Jung, Justin Foscue and Alejandro Osuna have been sent back down to AAA.
Bochy said that facing a lot of lefties creates difficulty in getting Osuna at-bats, and he wants him to be able to play every day with the Express.
On the pitching side of things, Winn’s promotion comes at the expense of Chris Martin, who left last night’s game with what we now know is a left calf strain.
Martin was placed on the 15-day IL, but unfortunately, that is not indicative of the time frame it will take for him to return. Bochy said that the Rangers are guessing that he will miss 4-6 weeks.
These moves may not be the only ones we see the Rangers make this week. RHP Jon Gray could be activated to make his season debut on Wednesday. RHP Josh Sborz is also closing in on a return in the not-too-distant future after his recent rehab stints.
