Hunter Goodman named 2025 National League All-Star
The Colorado Rockies haven’t had much to celebrate in 2025, but on Sunday, the baseball world tipped its cap to one of the team’s few bright spots. Catcher and designated hitter Hunter Goodman was officially named to the National League All-Star team, earning his first career All-Star selection in what has been a breakout campaign.
When Goodman was called up late in the 2023 season, he looked the part of a classic Rockies slugger: big righty swing, high strikeout risk, and a question of whether his bat could stick against big league arms. What followed over the next season and a half was a steady evolution. While 2024 showed flashes of promise, 2025 has been a revelation.
As of the announcement, Goodman is slashing .281/.326/.516 with 16 home runs and 50 RBI and pacing the Rockies in nearly every offensive category. Goodman solidified his Midsummer Classic berth by slashing .316/.350/.716 with seven doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 19 RBIs in 23 games from June 2 through Saturday.
The positional split for Goodman has been quite apparent as well. In 56 games as a catcher, he has posted a .312/.343/.595 slash line with 14 homers. In 26 games as a designated hitter, Goodman has slashed .224/.303/.367 with two homers.
Entering Sunday, Goodman was leading all NL catchers in hits (86), home runs (16), total bases (158), and RBI (50), while ranking second in batting average (.281), slugging (.516), and OPS (.842). His 16 home runs and 50 RBI are both the most by a Rockies catcher prior to the All-Star break in franchise history. Goodman is the second Rockies catcher to be named to the National League All-Star team, joining Elias Díaz, who represented the team in 2023.
“It was an awesome moment,” Goodman said. “It’s a blessing. I can’t thank everybody around me enough for helping me get there. It was a great experience, having it in the clubhouse with all the guys who have been going through a rough, rough season so far. But we stuck together, and it was awesome doing it with them.”
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will take place in Atlanta, GA at Truist Park on July 15.
