Thairo Estrada lifts Rockies to 7-6 victory against the Astros

In a dramatic turnaround on July 3, 2025, the Colorado Rockies snagged a thrilling 7–6 win over the Houston Astros to net their 20th win of the season. Kyle Freeland steadied the ship after a rocky first inning in which the Astros punched across two runs. He then settled into a groove at home, shutting down the opposition through his next innings

Things got off to a rough start in the first when the Astros strung together three straight hits to take a 1-0 lead with one out. Another run came in on a ground out RBI for Christian Walker, making it 2-0, before Freeland escaped the inning.

After allowing three hits in the first inning, Freeland ended up going six innings, allowing six hits in total, with two walks and two strikeouts. The Astros third run came in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Christian Walker.

The Rockies rallied back to tie things up on the bottom of the second thanks to a two-run homer from Thairo Estrada. The veteran second baseman would have himself quite the day, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. He delivered and RBI in the third inning and a crucial RBI single in the seventh that proved to be the difference maker.

The Rockies took their first lead of the game in the fourth when shortstop Ryan Ritter chipped in with a two-run single. The Astros would tie things up again in the seventh but again the Rockies rallied for two runs to take a 7-5 lead..

In a tense ninth, Seth Halvorsen (the closer) needed all 103+ mph heat to secure the final out — marking the fastest pitch by a Rockies reliever at Coors Field in the Statcast era.

They escape the series with one victory and will now host the Chicago White Sox for the weekend series.
