Wings Sign Liatu King Ahead Of Showdown With 2nd Place Mercury
The Dallas Wings haven’t had many chances lately to enjoy multiple off days.
However, after back-to-back contests last Friday and Saturday, the Wings have had a rare run of four off days in a row.
During that stretch, Wings GM Curt Miller announced to the media that Dallas would be signing a new player before they take on the second-place Phoenix Mercury.
Now, with less than 24 hours before the showdown, we know who that player is.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Wings announced they have signed forward Liatu King to a rest-of-season contract.
King was drafted 28th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in this year’s draft, but became a free agent when her hardship contract with the team expired.
In 12 games with the Sparks, King averaged 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field in ten minutes per contest.
King played four seasons at the University of Pittsburgh (2020–2024) before transferring to Notre Dame for her graduate year, where she averaged 11.5 points and a program-record 10.4 rebounds per game.
It will be interesting to see how much King factors into the Wings’ rotation, which will get back centers Luisa Geiselsöder and Teaira McCowan from Euro-Basket.
Wings first-year head coach Chris Koclanes will be faced with the challenge of factoring King, Geiselsöder, and McCowan into the rotation of a team that has won four of its last six games.
