After a long and gruelling saga, Chelsea have finally secured the signing of their top left-wing target, a player they have been linked with since the January transfer window. Following months of groundwork and extended negotiations between clubs, Chelsea reached an agreement to bring in the English winger. He previously spent time in both Chelsea and Manchester City’s academies before making a move abroad. The 20-year-old has signed a seven-year contract, and the transfer fee is set at £55 million.

Gittens has been a highly touted prospect who made his mark with Dortmund in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga, playing 107 total games and contributing to 31 goals during that time. He is a goal-scoring winger and one of the best one-on-one dribblers in all of Europe when considering both volume and efficiency. This makes him a major threat in Enzo Maresca’s structured system.

He is expected to replace the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Jadon Sancho, who will not be part of the squad this upcoming season. Personally, I find the move exciting, but Gittens will need time to adjust to the reduced space and time on the ball in the Premier League. I urge Chelsea fans to remain patient with him early on.
