Rockies snag 4-3 win in extras over Brewers

The Colorado Rockies snapped a grueling five-game skid with a dramatic 4–3 extra‑innings win over the Milwaukee Brewers on June 29, 2025. The momentous contest at American Family Field unfolded much like a baseball thriller—pitchers traded zeros early, bats woke late, and unlikely heroes emerged as Colorado clawed back to victory in the 11th inning.

The first six innings featured a pitchers’ duel. Rockies’ starter Germán Márquez retired nine in a row to begin and was sturdily effective through 5⅔ innings, surrendering just two runs—solo homers to Sal Frelick and Christian Yelich—on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Milwaukee’s Chad Patrick matched the effort, flashing an eight-strikeout, five-inning shutout, scattering four hits and two walks before departing amid Colorado’s resurgence. By the end of the sixth inning, the Brewers held a 2-0 lead.

Unfortunately for them, the Rockies have proven quite capable in the later part of games in June as they battled for their eighth comeback win of the month. Colorado seized momentum late. In the eighth, Ryan McMahon reached on an infield single and advanced to second when shortstop Joey Ortiz committed a throwing error, setting the stage for Brenton Doyle’s thunderous RBI double to center, cutting Milwaukee’s lead to 2–1.

The ninth inning brought tension—the Brewers summoned Trevor Megill to close the game. He retired the first two batters, but the Rockies stayed alive thanks to Orlando Arcia, who delivered his second homer of the season, a clutch solo shot to tie the game. Seth Halvorsen kept things notched in the bottom of the inning, sending the game into extras.

The Rockies struck first, thanks to a Thairo Estrada dingle to score the runner from second to give them a 3-2 lead. The Brewers rallied against reliever Victor Vodnik to score a run on a wild pitch, tying it back 3-3. Vodnik managed to escape the inning, and the Rockies scratched across another run on a single from Kyle Farmer to give them a 4-3 lead. Tyler Kinley then struck out two Brewers and induced a fly ball to secure the win with his third save of the season.

The Rockies struck out 15 times on the day with just two walks, but they tallied 11 hits and managed to steal a win to end their short road trip. They improve to 19-65 on the season and end June with 10 wins. They head back home to begin a three-game series with the Houston Astros at Coors Field starting on Tuesday.
