Bradley Beal Is NOT What The Chicago Bulls Need Right Now

As a Chicago Bulls fan, I can tell you right now that I LONG FOR the days when this organization was actually relevant. I miss when the greatest player of all time, Michael Jordan, walked the halls of the United Center in his crispy-clean #23 jersey. It was a much simpler time for the city of Chicago.

But sadly, the brighter days are behind us, and NOW…..we are stuck in a constant pit of mediocrity that we don’t know how to get out of. That is why when I heard about the possibility of this team acquiring Suns SG Bradley Beal this offseason…..

I almost vomited profusely all over my computer screen. (If the trade actually happens, I may need a new laptop).

Beal, for those of you who are unaware, is a 3x All-Star who has been in this league since the 2012-2013 season. The so-called “Big Panda” has played for only two teams in his 13-year career; spending most of his time in Washington (11 years), before being traded to the Phoenix Suns during the 2023 offseason.

The former Florida Gator has turned into a prolific scorer in this league. When he was with the Wizards, he easily became one of the top scoring threats (if not THE top scoring threat) in the organization; averaging 20+ PPG five different times, and 30+ twice. The problem with him? He has seen a bit of a decline due to various injuries, and the fact he was basically the “third fiddle” to Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.

It’s a sad sight to see. But with the Suns looking to “clean house” and free up the log-jam that they have at the guard position, Beal has become expendable. They don’t want to pay him the $110 million that they owe him over the next two seasons. They believe in Devin Booker a lot more (as they should). So they want to move on, and OF COURSE……the Bulls are (reportedly) interested.

That…..that just sounds like something Chicago would do. I get it; it’s a “rumor,” and not factual. But knowing this team, and the stupid decisions that they’ve made over the years; the thought of them bringing in an aging guard with an alleged “temper” just isn’t surprising to me.

It’s absolutely ridiculous! This team does not need Bradly Beal. They don’t need to waste a majority of their cap, and any assets they would need to move in a trade, so that they can pay this overpriced has-been his ENORMOUS salary. Why? It’s because if they do, then they will only have two years to do anything with him. They will only have two years to win a championship before he realizes that this organization is weak, and he decides to go somewhere else.

The Chicago Bulls are NOT in a position to win at the moment. They are NOT a Bradley Beal-type player away from competing in the playoffs. They are a regular fixture of the play-in every single postseason, and they’re not getting better any time soon. So let’s save our assets, let’s save our money, and let’s ACTUALLY build a roster that can be successful for an extensive period of time. Let’s ACTUALLY build a roster that stars want to play with, and NOT overpay for guys who are past their prime.

FIGURE IT OUT, Eversley. FIGURE IT OUT, Arturas. But what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
