John Cena Just Cut His GREATEST PROMO Ever!

Fourteen years. It has been fourteen years since the so-called ‘Voice of the Voiceless” dropped the most infamous ‘pipebomb’ in the history of professional wrestling. It was a one of a kind segment that did a great job blurring the line between what was scripted, and what was real.

This was an elite moment that helped jettison the Punk/Cena rivalry into the rest of the summer, and helped create one of the best feuds in the modern era. But last night, after YEARS of waiting…..we finally got a response from the BIG MAN! The GOAT, and CURRENT WWE Universal Champion, gave us his OWN ‘pipebomb’ that I’m guessing he’s been wanting to pull off for the LONGEST TIME!

It was eerily symbolic, if you will. After a grueling match between R-Truth and Cena that ended in a disqualification, and CM Punk being sent through a table, the 17-time champion took a similar spot to Punk’s from that fateful day. He took a hot mic in his hand, popped a squat in the arena, and began to speak his mind to the WWE Universe.

He went “full heel” in that moment, breaking down some of CM Punk’s accomplishments and drama throughout the years. He talked about Punk’s problems in the various locker rooms he’s been in, most-likely a shot at his days in AEW. He gave us the notorious “I’m breaking the fourth wall” line that CM Punk did during his promo back in the day, after he addressed the kids in the audience about him cussing live on air.

Not only that; the man from West Newbury, MA also dove DEEP into Punk’s “lack of skills” on the mic, calling his promos a “potato salad” of sorts. But to round it out, (and this was my favorite part); he called out the former Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, and Zack Ryder by their real names and said that Punk “stepped on the necks of people whom actually work hard, if it gets him ahead.”

THIS……this is now my new favorite John Cena moment. In his 20+ years in the industry, he has given us a PLETHORA of moments to sink our teeth into. Whether it was his first title win against The Big Show at Wrestlemania XX, his return at the Royal Rumble in 2008, or even one of the many ‘Mania matches that he’s had with The Rock; this man has become an icon, and one of the most pivotal pieces in the history of wrestling.

And NOW, with the “good guy persona” shed off and his new “heel character” taking center stage, this man is bringing his game to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL! I don’t care if people think that it was a “copy and paste” style promo, where he just parroted what Punk said. Those people are wrong. Those people are lame. I don’t listen to those people. They just complain to complain, and don’t like to have fun.

This was just another reason why Cena is the Greatest of All-Time, and why he will continue to reign supreme all the way to his final day. But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
