LSU vs. Coastal Carolina: Winner Take All
There is nothing sweeter than the College World Series. We have seen some very electrifying performances and moments that we as a fans will carry with us for our lifetime. But so will these players. The stage is now set and the championship series is official. LSU vs Coastal Carolina; winner take all in a best of three this weekend. Get the popcorn ready this will be a series to tune into.
How We Got Here
Coastal Carolina
For the first time since 2016, Coastal Carolina reached the Super Regionals. Ironically, that was the year they won it all and return to the championship once again. Feels like fate if you ask me. To set the tone, they got a rematch from the championship in 2016, taking on Arizona.
On the backs of pitcher Riley Eikhoff and Cameron Flukey, they were able to secure a 7-4 victory to set the tone. If you needed a feel good story, look no further than Jacob Morrison. He was coming back from Tommy John surgery and pitched a lights out game against the eighth ranked team in the country in Oregon State. In 7.2 innings of work, he struck out seven and threw over 100 pitches. Then, you get the offensive outburst against Louisville. Eikhoff once again was stellar, but an 11 run outburst set the tone. Coastal Carolina has scored 64 runs in the tournament and also has won 26 games in a row.
They have the pitching, they have the offense, and they have some of the most electrifying vibes around. They are a very fun group, but they’ll need to be every bit of good against LSU if they want to win.
LSU
They’ve played two games against Arkansas, which felt like championship type games. Given how loaded both teams were, you felt like whoever won those games was going to the big dance. Needless to say, LSU won both games and punched their ticket to the dance.
They won the first game 4-1. Kade Anderson is special and there is a reason he is one of the top pitchers in college. Seven strong innings and seven strikeouts and just the lone earned run. He held what has been a very good Arkansas offense in check. They got a strong offensive output against a good UCLA team, but once again the big fireworks came against Arkansas.
In thrilling and exciting fashion, LSU walked of Arkansas in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was a very closely contested game, until they traded big blows in the 8th inning. Arkansas was up 5-3 headed into the bottom of the 9th and you’re feeling good about yourself. A bad read led to two runs tying the game and then Jared Jones drove in the winning run to punch their ticket to the championship.
Between both starters, neither offense had anything going. But what an exciting finish. LSU has some of the best pitching, but so does Coastal. It’ll be a fun story to see whose pitching delivers more and what offense can come through more.
Kade Anderson, Caden Bodine, some of the brightest stars on these teams. Going to be immaculate.
