Not Sweepless in Seattle: Mariners Shut Out Cleveland Guardians 6-0

The Cleveland Guardians are a .500 team. We’ll talk about this tomorrow.

Seattle completed a three-game sweep with a 6-0 victory yesterday at T-Mobile Park.

The Guardians are taking the day off today, but they will travel to San Francisco to face the red-hot Giants, who just traded for Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers.

Slade Cecconi (1-3) will start on Tuesday night for Cleveland against San Francisco’s Robbie Ray (8-1).

DOWN IN A HOLE

Seattle jumped on Guardians starter Luis Ortiz (3-8) for five runs in the second inning.

Miles Mastrobuoni opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a grand slam by J.P. Crawford.

The Mariners scored its other run off Ortiz in the fifth inning on a single by Mitch Garver.

Meanwhile, Cleveland’s hitters couldn’t do anything against Emerson Hancock (3-2). He pitched seven shutout innings and gave up two hits.

Cleveland only managed four hits in the game, all singles. Jose Ramirez saw his on-base streak broken at 39 games.

WHERE DO WE STAND?

Even though every team in the AL Central Division has lost at least two games in a row, Cleveland is 9½ games behind the Detroit Tigers.

Despite their mediocre record, the Guardians are only one game out of the final wild-card spot.
