Nick Chubb To Sign with Houston Texans
On a Monday night September 18th,2 023, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania at Acrisure Stadium late in the first quarter, Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb suffered a catastrophic knew injury while being tackled by Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The injury and play were not shown on replay to the ESPN televised viewing audience. But it was shown on the replay to fans attending the game. The reaction to the injury from both Browns and Steelers fans were of shock and horror of the sheer gruesomeness of the injury. While Nick Chubb was being carted off the field in show of class and respect, fans in attendance chanted Nick Chubb’s name. It looked as if it was the last play of his NFL playing career.
In 2024 Nick Chubb signed a one-year incentive-based deal to come back and play for the Cleveland Browns. He was able play again in week 7 of 2024 at Huntington Bank Field against the Cincinnati Bengals. Chubb rushed for 22 yards in 11 attempts for 1 touchdown in that game. Chubb did not look like his old self and his 2024 season ended in week 15 at home against the Kansas City Chiefs when he suffered a broken foot. Nick Chubb’s future with Cleveland Browns seemed even more uncertain in 2025.
On Sunday June 8th, 2025, Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network reported that Nick Chubb was expected to sign a one-year contract with the Houston Texans pending a June 9th physical. Details of the contract are not yet available publicly. Cleveland Browns fans are naturally upset that the heart and soul of the team is leaving. But the writing was on the wall in the 2025 offseason.
In the 2025 NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns drafted two running backs. In the second round the Browns selected running back Quinshon Judkins from National Champion Ohio State University. In the fourth round the Browns selected 2024 SEC Offensive Player of the Year running back Dylan Sampson from the University of Tennessee. Also on May 2nd ,2025, Browns veteran running back Jerome Ford took a 50% pay cut in a contract restructure. To think that Nick Chubb was returning to the Browns in 2025 was wishful thinking by Browns fans.
As much as it hurts to see Nick Chubb leave and play for another team. As a lifetime Cleveland Browns fan and current beat reporter. I want to personally thank Nick Chubb for what he did for the Cleveland Browns, for Browns fans, and the City of Cleveland. And I along with other Browns fans will wish him the absolute best in his future endeavors. We will see you again Nick when the Cleveland Browns induct you in the Ring of Honor.
