3 Potential Trade Destinations for Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith

It was a breakout season for Jonnu Smith in 2024-25.

The Miami Dolphins signed Smith to a two-year last last offseason and found a way to get the most out of the veteran tight end.

Smith turned in his best season with 88 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He worked well with head coach Mike McDaniel with a healthy Tua Tagovailoa under center. Smith could be looking to cash in on this year and get an extension. The Dolphins might not be willing to give one and this could lead to a trade.

There have been early rumblings of a deal and it could be coming this offseason. These three teams could be interested in Smith in a potential deal.

3. New York Jets

The New York Jets would be an ideal fit for Smith but remain third on this list because of the in-division aspect. It does not seem likely that the Dolphins would move Smith to an AFC East foe but if so, the Jets are the team. New York was linked to Tyler Warren and other tight ends in the draft but opted for an offensive lineman instead. The team ended up drafting Mason Taylor in the second round but could still be looking for an upgrade. Smith would be an immediate upgrade at the position.

2.Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos took massive steps forward into the postseason with head coach Sean Payton turning Bo Nix into a competent starting quarterback right away. As good as Nix was, he did not have tight ends to work with. This was a major problem for the team and it led to the addition of Evan Engram. Is this enough to shy away from Smith in a deal? It should not be. The more the merrier on a roster that is looking to become a contender in the AFC.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers top the list since they are the team linked to Smith already. The Steelers have been in contact with Miami and a deal was expected to come together soon. It has fallen off in recent days but could get back going before training camp. The Steelers have bigger things to worry about, like the quarterback position, but Smith has become a priority.
