Fifth inning collapse leads to 13-1 Yankees win over Rockies

The Colorado Rockies suffered a crushing 13–1 defeat to the New York Yankees on Saturday at Coors Field. This loss came just a day after the Rockies’ surprising 3–2 victory over the Yankees.

The game began with a promising start for the Rockies, as they managed to tie the game at 1–1 in the fourth inning. However, the Yankees responded with a 10-run fifth inning, sending 14 batters to the plate and collecting seven hits, three walks, and two sacrifice flies. This offensive explosion marked the second time this season the Yankees scored 10 runs in a single inning, a feat they hadn’t achieved twice in the same season since 2009.

Yankees’ ace Max Fried delivered a dominant performance, pitching 7⅓ innings and allowing only one run while striking out seven. His effort improved his record to 7–0 with a league-best 1.29 ERA. Fried also showcased his defensive skills by picking off two Rockies baserunners.

Offensively, the Yankees were led by Aaron Judge, who hit his 18th home run of the season in the first inning, reclaiming the league lead. Multiple players contributed to the Yankees’ 21-hit onslaught, including Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, Anthony Volpe, Jasson Domínguez, DJ LeMahieu, and Austin Wells, all recording multi-hit games.

For the Rockies, starting pitcher Kyle Freeland struggled, allowing four earned runs over 4⅔ innings and falling to 0–7 on the season with a 5.86 ERA. The bullpen failed to contain the Yankees’ offense, giving up two runs.

This loss drops the Rockies to a league-worst 9–43 record. The team will look to rebound in the series finale, with Antonio Senzatela scheduled to start against Yankees’ pitcher Will Warren
