3 NFL Breakout WR Candidates Entering Contract Years
Each year, the NFL welcomes a new wave of players on contract years preparing to breakout.
The contract year in sports has become extremely important as players will lock in looking for the best deal possible come the offseason. This is especially true when searching for guaranteed money.
The NFL will have a deep group of wide receivers entering free agency after the 2025-26 season. This includes the likes of Terry McLaurin, Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, and Christian Kirk — barring any extensions done.
Below, check out three under-the-radar receivers that could break out in the final year of their contracts.
3. Marquise Brown, Kansas City Chiefs
Marquise Brown spent much of his first year with the Kansas City Chiefs on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. He returned late in the year and logged nine catches. If he is fully healthy, Brown has the chance to be a deep threat in the Chiefs’ offense in the final year of his career. Brown has struggled to find a consistent home but could thrive with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
2. TuTu Atwell, Los Angeles Rams
TuTu Atwell has been consistent within the offense of Sean McVay. He has proven to be a speed option on the outside while improving over the years. Atwell entered the NFL as a raw prospect but has turned into a productive receiver. Last year, he posted 42 catches for 562 yards. His speed is not in question and Atwell has improved as a route runner as well. The Rams brought in Davante Adams to replace Cooper Kupp. Atwell will return to his role as WR3 within the offense.
1. Dyami Brown, Jacksonville Jaguars
Dyami Brown seems like the perfect breakout candidate down in Jacksonville. After spending four years with the Washington Commanders, Brown signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars. He thrived with Jayden Daniels last year He logged 308 yards and one touchdown in the regular season but became a reliable target in the playoffs. He caught five balls for 89 yards and a score against Tampa Bay in the postseason before leading the team with 98 yards against Detroit.
