The Chicago Bears have been on a bit of a ‘spending spree’ as of late; bringing in big names like Jonah Jackson, Drew Dalman, and Joe Thuney to help build around second year QB Caleb Williams. It has been an embarrassment of riches for the city of Chicago, as they look to take a MAJOR LEAP FORWARD from their disappointing 2024 season.

It has been a wild road for Ryan Poles and co., with the Bears dominating most of the headlines throughout the off-season. But now, with the most recent extension they handed out……it looks like the navy and orange are back in the spotlight once again.

Bears and newly-acquired Pro-Bowl G Joe Thuney reached agreement on a two-year contract extension, per agent @MikeMcCartney7.

Joe Thuney, for those of you who may have forgotten, came to the Windy City via a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the start of NFL Free Agency. This move was made to help bolster the teams’ God-awful offensive line, that ranked near the bottom of the league in all major categories last season.

Thuney, the 3x Pro-Bowler and 2x All-Pro, was a member of Andy Reid’s Chiefs for the past four seasons. During his time in KC, he was able to help lead the team to multiple Super Bowl wins. He has been one of the most solid linemen in the entire league; giving up only seven sacks in the last five seasons, including ZERO in 2024. He also holds the 12th-best pressure allowed rate in football since 2020, posting a 3.3% in that time frame.

He is an ANIMAL! Thuney’s ability to be a violent pass protector is exactly what this team needed on the offensive line. The best part? We are getting him on this extension at an absolute STEAL! The $17.5 million that the Bears will be paying him the next two years will be significantly below his market value, thanks to the genius maneuvering of funds by Poles and the rest of the front office.

This…..is……HUGE! The Chicago Bears continue to impress the league with the various draft selections and moves they’ve been making. This team is destined for big things in the future, and with the likes of Dalman, Jackson, and Thuney rounding out the interior part of their line……anything is possible.

Joe got the BAG today! Now it’s time to GET TO WORK! But in the end, as always….what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
