Rockies shutout once again in 1-0 loss to Diamondbacks
The day after a wild offensive affair that saw the Colorado Rockies score 14 runs on 19 hits, Merrill Kelly and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to hold them to just three hits in their seventh shutout of the season 1-0.
In a tightly contested pitcher’s duel, the game’s only run came early, as Arizona’s Ketel Marte launched a solo home run in the first inning, his sixth of the season, providing the Diamondbacks with all the offense they would need.
Rockies’ starter Chase Dollander delivered a commendable performance, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits, and striking out six batters. Despite his efforts, Colorado’s offense struggled to generate momentum against Diamondbacks’ ace Merrill Kelly, who dominated with 11 strikeouts over seven scoreless innings.
The Rockies managed only one hit against Kelly—a double by Jordan Beck in the sixth inning. This lack of offensive production marked a stark contrast to their previous game. The Rockies did threaten in the top of the ninth. Kyle Farmer hit a one-out single, followed by a double from Hunter Goodman, his 11th of the season. Ryan McMahon was intentionally walked to load the bases before Brenton Doyle popped out and Michael Toglia lined out to end the game.
With this loss, the Rockies’ record drops to 8-38, while the Diamondbacks improve to 25-22. Colorado will look to rebound in their upcoming series as they continue to seek consistency both on the mound and at the plate, welcoming the Philadelphia Phillies to Coors Field starting Monday.
