Mahle Strong Once Again As Rangers Down Astros 5-1
Not many pitchers have been better on their home mound than Tyler Mahle has been to start 2025.
Entering play today, Mahle was 3-1 with an AL-best ERA of 0.70 in six starts at Globe Life Field this season.
On Saturday, Mahle turned in another strong performance in front of the home fans, earning the win after going six innings, allowing just one run while striking out three in a 5-1 Rangers win.
“I probably have said this quite a few times about him [Mahle], he just has great pitchability and game awareness,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after the game.
“He just knows what he wants to do out there; he’s pretty much calling his game, but he and Higgy [Kyle Higashioka] worked well together tonight”.
“He’s a guy that can go up and down with the fastball, both sides with it, has a good split, and then he has that slider, it’s a nice mix with command of it. When he was missing tonight, it wasn’t by much, so I just love the way he competes out there”.
At the conclusion of tonight’s game, Mahle’s 1.473 ERA is third-best in the American League. In each of his ten starts to open the season, he has allowed two or fewer runs.
Mahle was in position to pick up another win thanks to Joc Pederson, who smoked his first Rangers home run at Globe Life Field in the bottom of the 6th to break a 1-1 tie.
The Rangers would go on to score two more in the 8t,h including a Wyatt Langford home run which landed in the second deck after coming off the bat at 108 MPH.
Texas got a shutout performance out of their bullpen as Jacob Webb started the line, throwing a scoreless 7th inning.
Chris Martin came on in the 8th for the first time since leaving Tuesday’s game with elbow tightness and didn’t miss a beat throwing a 1-2-3 inning.
In the 9th, it was Robert Garcia who fired a clean frame to seal the win for the Rangers in front of a sellout crowd at the Globe.
