Rockies strike out 14 times in 8-3 loss to Rangers

The woes of the Colorado Rockies continued on Wednesday night as they fell 8–3 to the Texas Rangers, completing a three-game sweep. With this loss, the Rockies remain winless under interim manager Warren Schaeffer and they became the first team in the Modern Era to lose 36 of the first 43 games. They joined the 1876 Red Stockings, 1884 Kansas City Unions, and 1895 Louisville Colonels as the only other teams to lose that many in the first 43 games.

The game unraveled quickly for Colorado in the first inning. Starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela lasted just 4.2 innings, surrendering six earned runs on eight hits and four walks. The Rangers capitalized early, scoring four runs in the first inning, including five straight hits to start the day for Texas. Wyatt Langford ignited the offense with a two-run homer, his eighth of the season, followed by an RBI fielder’s choice from Evan Carter and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Josh Jung, pushing the score to 4–0.

The Rangers added to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings, with Jake Burger knocking a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run home run from Adolis Garcia in the sixth to give the Rangers an 8–3 advantage.

On the offensive side, the Rockies managed to score three runs, thanks to a solo home run from Michael Toglia in the second inning and a two-run home run from Kyle Farmer in the sixth. Those proved to be the only meaningful hits as they struggled to solve Patrick Corbin, as he allowed three runs on four hits over six innings with nine strikeouts. The bullpen continued to lock things down, and the Rockies ended up striking out 14 times against just two walks with seven hits.

With this loss, the Rockies’ record falls to 7–36.  The team will look to regroup as they continue their road trip with an off day on Thursday before a weekend set against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
