Rangers Injury Upates – Seager, Smith, Jackson, Rocker, ETC.

When Rangers manager Bruce Bochy met with the media before the game on Tuesday afternoon, he delivered no shortage of injury updates.

From Corey Seager to Luke Jackson, to Kumar Rocker, and more, let’s break down everything new we learned about the health of the Rangers.

Starting with the only injury related news of the day, Texas has placed Corey Seager on the ten day IL with the same hamstring strain that put him on the IL from April 23rd to May 2nd.

After coming back from that injury, Seager played in four straight games but has since missed four of the last five due to the hamstring remaining sore.

Texas has no need to send Seager out there at anything less than 100%, so they will sit him for at least the next eight days.

While Seager will go on the IL, Kyle Higashioka will come off after his mild left intercostal strain. During a rehab stint at AAA Round Rock, Higashioka went 2-8 with 2 doubles, he will DH tonight as Texas takes on the Rockies.

Josh Smith will not be in the lineup once again tonight after missing last night’s series opener with back soreness. Bochy said that Smith is available off the bench and could have played today, but with a lefty on the mound, they wanted to give him an extra day.

On the pitching side of things, the Rangers will be without closer Luke Jackson after he was struck on the hand by a 111 MPH line drive off the bat of Ryan McMahon.

Jackson’s hand swelling did go down today, but Bochy said the Rangers are “stuck in the crossroads” on whether or not to make a move to put him on the IL.

As of now, Jackson remains off the IL but will be reevaluated in 4-5 days to determine if an IL stent is needed.

Some players who are currently on the IL are inching closer to making their returns to the Rangers.

Kevin Pillar took live BP at Globe Life Field on Monday, and he is about set to head out on rehab before returning to the team.

Kumar Rocker is also close to going out on rehab, after throwing a bullpen off the mound on Monday, his next step will be to throw a live BP session soon.
