3 Potential Landing Spots for Trey Hendrickson Following Latest Dispute
The Cincinnati Bengals came into the offseason with many boxes to check.
A team with stars on both sides of the ball had to find a way to keep the roster together in hopes of winning a Super Bowl moving forward. Cincinnati was able to pay both Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins this offseason.
This leaves Trey Hendrickson waiting for a new deal but is one coming?
Hendrickson made a statement to ESPN about his lack of communication with the franchise.
“Rather than using collaboration to…bring me home to the team, they are no longer communicating,” Hendrickson said. “I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution to the situation but that’s hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals.”
This might be a negotiation tool for Hendrickson but if it is not, the two sides might be coming to a split. If it gets to that point, these three teams will be very interested in the All-Pro edge.
3. Arizona Cardinals
Jonathan Gannon has been hard at work to rebuild his defense in Arizona. The Cardinals made bit moves to bring in Josh Sweat and draft Walter Nolan in the first round. The Cardinals currently have around $30 million in cap space remaining this offseason. Arizona was looking into help on the edge in the draft as well. This seems like a no-brainer for Arizona if Hendrickson becomes available.
2. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have upwards of $40 million left in cap space this offseason. Za’Darius Smith is now gone after being brought in to replace Aidan Hutchinson following his leg injury. Hutchinson is working his way back and a duo with Hendrickson would immediately be the best in football.
1. Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders have already made big, win-now moves this offseason. It began with trading for Deebo Samuel before a blockbuster to add Laremy Tunsil at left tackle. General manager Adam Peters has made it clear that he wants to maximize this roster during the rookie contract of Jayden Daniels. The addition of Hendrickson would do that right away. Washington kept the linebackers at full strength with bringing back Bobby Wagner. Trey Amos was added in the second round while Javon Kinlaw leads a group up front to stop the run. Hendrickson could be the final piece of the puzzle.
