WWE Backlash: John Cena Attacks R-Truth After Defeating Randy Orton
Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to be a good friend.
Even though John Cena turned his back on the fans, R-Truth kept believing in him.
Last night at Backlash, Cena was defending the WWE championship against hometown hero Randy Orton.
After two referees went down, Orton hit the RKO on Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis and other WWE officials.
Orton was ready to punt Cena in the head when R-Truth intervened and begged Orton not to do it.
This gave Cena the opening to hit a low blow and knock out Orton with the championship belt for the victory.
R-Truth approached Cena at the post-show press conference. The champ showed his gratitude by putting R-Truth through a table.
LYRA WINS AGAIN
Lyra Valkyria defeated Becky Lynch to retain the women’s Intercontinental title. Becky kicked out of Nightwing, and Lyra survived the Dis-Arm-Her submission.
Lyra won with a rollup for her second victory over Lynch, who launched a post-match attack with the Dis-Arm-Her.
Dominik Mysterio defeated Penta to retain the men’s Intercontinental title.
The referee ejected The Judgment Day for interfering, but El Grande Americano hit a loaded headbutt on Penta to give Dirty Dom the victory.
BLOODLINE 3.0?
Jacob Fatu retained the U.S. title in the four-way opening match. Damien Priest hit the South of Heaven chokeslam on Drew McIntyre through two tables.
That left Fatu in the ring with LA Knight. Fatu received help from Solo Sikoa and the debuting Jeff Cobb to retain the championship.
Gunther destroyed commentator Pat McAfee, as everyone expected. Michael Cole tried to help his broadcast partner, but Gunther eventually beat McAfee with the sleeper.
