Will You Be A ‘Booty Diver’ On June 20th?

To the ‘higher ups’ here at Fans First Sports Network, I implore you to read this article in it’s entirety before coming to a conclusion. This is not what you think it is. I would like to not be let go any time soon. This piece is STRICTLY about baseball, and the BEAUTY of the minor leagues.

What do I mean by that, you may ask? Well…

That is right, baseball fans; the Coastal Plain League organization known as the Morehead City Marlins will be going through a “rebrand” of sorts within the next couple of months. In June, the fourth place team out of North Carolina will be sailing the seven seas, and traversing the wretched waters of the ocean…….to “dive for that booty.”

This wonderful display of marketing, and joy for the sport of baseball, will include a wide array of merchandise that includes tops that coin the phrase “I Go Down” and hats that say “Make Booty Diving Great Again.” This rebrand will coincide with another Coastal Plain League name change, where the Wilson Tobs will be changing their name to the Tater Hogs.

The Marlins’ alter ego will take effect starting June 20th, when they will play host to the 26-19 Wilmington Sharks at Big Rock Stadium. It will be the first of many stops for the ‘Divers,’ as they are looking to bring their new name to fans who just LOVE searching for the amplest of booties.

Personally, I think this is an EXCELLENT rebrand for a team that so desperately needs it. It has almost become a tradition for minor league/independent league teams to come up with fun/”goofy” nicknames to call themselves for a short period of time, in order to help drum up business for their squad. And what better name to go with….than the “Booty Divers.”

It is a fantastic shift from the rather “boring” Marlins moniker, and something that plenty of people around the world can relate to. I mean, as an avid “diver” myself, I can surely tell you that it fits with my beliefs. Who doesn’t love a great dive for buried treasure? Not only that; those shirts are just PERFECT for any occasion, and something that I will CERTAINLY be purchasing whenever they go on sale.

(Seriously……who WOULDN’T want to support this team?)

This is just another prime example of how fun baseball can be, and how we need to help support the smaller squads as much as we can. But in the end, as always….what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
