Márquez’s struggles continue as Willy Adames hands Rockies series loss
The Colorado Rockies suffered a 9–3 defeat to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, concluding a challenging four-game series with a 1–3 record. This loss marks the Rockies’ 11th consecutive series defeat, bringing their season record to 6–28.
Giants shortstop Willy Adames delivered a standout performance, hitting two solo home runs in the first and third innings off Rockies starter Germán Márquez and adding an RBI double in the fifth. Adames matched his season highs with three hits and three RBIs while starting pitcher Logan Webb handcuffed the Rockies, allowing only one run and six hits over seven innings while striking out six, securing his fourth win of the season.
Despite the Rockies tallying 10 hits, they struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving eight men on base and going 2-for-8 with RISP. Jacob Stallings singled in a run in the top of the fifth to get the Rockies back within a run, but the Giants rallied for three runs in the bottom half to make it a 5-1 game. Márquez’s struggles continued, as he allowed five runs on six hits over 4⅓ innings, bringing his record to 0–6.
The Giants’ offense was further bolstered by a four-run seventh inning, featuring key hits from Wilmer Flores and LaMonte Wade Jr against reliever Tyler Kinley. The Rockies managed two more runs in the top of the eighth, but nothing much else could come to fruition. Their strikeouts have been improving as they punched out just eight times, but they have struggled in those key situations.
The Rockies will head back to Coors Field on to kick off a new series on Tuesday when the Detroit Tigers come to town.
