Today in White Sox Baseball (April 23, 2025) — Clean sweep, er, swept!
It was bound to happen, with a franchise like the White Sox and a system like Chicago’s: losses in every game played. Well, at least there was a Low-A rainout!
Minnesota Twins 6, Chicago White Sox 3 The Twins, struggling like hell to start the season, are getting healthy off of the White Sox, to be sure. With “only” five days to respond to Martín Pérez’s out-for-months injury, Chicago ran a bullpen game out. The results were to be expected, especially with an offense that considers three runs a virtual outburst. Bryse Wilson was the sacrificial lamb starter.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5, Charlotte Knights 0 Forget the three runs of the White Sox, the three hits of the Knights tonight almost guaranteed S/W-B’s shutout. Tyler Schweitzer, the surprise first call-up from Birmingham, saw little more than pain in his Triple-A debut, giving up four of the five RailRiders runs. Kyle Teel (two singles) and Tim Elko (one) comprised the full Charlotte offense, as the Knights melted to 8-15.
Rocket City Trash Pandas 5, Birmingham Barons 1 It was more failed offense in Double-A, as Hagen Smith had a superb (OK, wild) outing but enjoyed zero run support from his mates. Although Birmingham had a 1-0 lead at one time, Gil Luna had a rough relief night, coughing up five to the Pandas. The Barons fall to 8-8.
Rome Emperors 2, Winston-Salem Dash 1 (10 innings) The writeups for slugfests are more fun, but more work, so I suppose if the system gets swept at least they are doing it demure, easy-write fashion. The Dash losing streak ran to five, as Lucas Gordon saw his five shutout innings wasted in another low-offense day for the affiliates. The game was scoreless through eight, but drama ensued in the presumed final frame, as Carson Jacobs gave a tally to Rome, and after a some comically-unfortunate turns Wes Kath sent the game to extras with an RBI infield hit. In the 10th, Rome dinged Jacobs for another run and W-S failed to answer. The Dash are now 5-12.
