Rooftop Mingle: Jackson Cox, Rockies No. 30 Prospect
In the summer of 2023, the Colorado Rockies were hit by an unfortunate wave of Tommy John surgery. Not only did they lose two of their major league starters, but they also lost a few notable prospects in the minors. Among those prospects was right-handed pitcher Jackson Cox.
Drafted by the Rockies in the second round (50th overall) of the 2022 draft out of high school, Cox was getting his feet wet pitching in professional baseball. While the results weren’t exactly where he wanted them (a 7.26 ERA in 10 games), the grit and determination were there.
Now back with the Grizzlies, Cox is set to do one thing: dominate.
In his return from injury, Cox is looking good, building back up on his strength before the injury. His pitches are looking well with life on his fastball. While the results in the box score aren’t where he would want them to be, the fact that he is back on the field feeling healthy and consistent and able to put the surgery in the rear-view mirror is an important step for the 21-year-old.
We also talk to Cox about his development on the mound, that transition from high school to pro ball, as well as where the drive comes to compete, among many other things!
