Today in White Sox Baseball (April 16, 2025) — Just one win, again
At least the White Sox made this one close, although their bats remain in cold storage. And in what is becoming a familiar scene, just one affiliate prevailed on Wednesday.
A’s 3, Chicago White Sox 1 It was another frustrating loss, although Jonathan Cannon pitched very well. Brooks Baldwin homered, for 4-13 Chicago’s only run.
Nashville Sounds 11, Charlotte Knights 7 (10 innings) You don’t often lose an extra-inning game by four runs, but then, the Knights don’t often lose eight straight games. Wait, scratch that, over the past through dismal seasons, it surely has happened. Nick Nastrini continued his season-long struggle, giving up five runs (four earned) in four innings. Tim Elko homered twice, and Bobby Dalbec homered and doubled to get the Knights back in the game, eventually giving Charlotte a 7-6 lead. But poor defense and shaky late relief put the Sounds ringing back on top. Charlotte fell to 6-11.
Biloxi Shuckers 4, Birmingham Barons 0 Hey, at least Charlotte scored: Birmingham dropped to .500 (5-5) with a three-single attack. Scintillating Bham starter Grant Taylor saw his outing shortened due to wildness (four walks, against five Ks). Piggyback starter Tyler Schweitzer was much better, with five shutout frames.
Winston-Salem Dash 5, Greenville Drive 2 Today’s sole winner was the Dash, who improved to 4-7 thanks mostly to starter Tanner McDougal (one unearned run, 4 2⁄3 innings The offense came from some familiar sources, as Jackson Appel had an RBI triple, Jeral Perez homer, and Ryan Galanie singled in a run and drove in another with a ground out.
Columbia Fireflies 12, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6 We end on a wilder note, as these Low-A club combined for 18 runs — and 10 in the ninth. Christian Oppor struggled, whiffing six but giving up four earned runs in 3 2⁄3 innings. While there was plenty of CBs offense in the game, no one stood out like Caleb Bonemer, with four hits including two doubles. Kannapolis dropped to 6-4.
