Rangers Offense Breaks Out For 15 Runs As Texas Powers Past A’s

After the Rangers 2-1 loss to the Athletics on Monday night, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that his team would keep fighting in hopes of having a breakout game offensively.

Turns out they didn’t need to fight for very much longer.

Texas exploded for season highs with 15 runs, 18 hits, and 9 walks en route to a 15-2 shellacking of the A’s.

“It was good to see the guys break out and have a good game,” Bochy said. A lot of guys had great at-bats, some success. Sometimes it’s contagious, [a] well-played game for us.

Early in the game, the Rangers were able to build a 4-0 lead primarily based on two-out base hits.

Josh Smith, Jake Burger, Leody Taveras, and Marcus Semien each had RBI singles with the Rangers down to their final out through the first four innings.

In the 6th, Texas put the game away and secured their offensive breakout with an eight-run frame to make the score 12-0. That total was the Rangers highest in a single inning since 5/7/24 when they had a 10-run second inning in Oakland against these very same A’s.

Adolis Garcia delivered both the big blow of the inning and the game when he ripped a bases-clearing double into center field to make it 8-0 Texas. In the same inning, Wyatt Langford lined another bases-clearing double down the left field line to make it 12-0.

In the 8th, Kyle Higashioka stepped to the plate against position player Jhonny Pereda and had a bases-clearing double of his own, marking the 3rd such instance of the night for the Rangers.

With that swing, Higashioka put the 2025 Rangers into the record books, marking the first time in franchise history Texas has had three bases-clearing doubles in one game.

However, despite the offensive onslaught, one of the most impressive performances by a Ranger tonight came from the mound.

Jacob deGrom turned in his best start of the season to date, throwing six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven and not allowing a single walk.

That line earned deGrom his first MLB win in over two years, something that he says he didn’t even realize.

“It’s been a while, so obviously the goal is to win, especially the team,” deGrom said after the game. “Tonight was about trying to go out there and put up zeros and give them a chance, and they did a great job of scoring runs”.

deGrom noted that he found a fix to some of his mechanical issues while playing catch yesterday and that proved to make a night and day difference today.

“I’ve been working nonstop in between [starts] trying to figure out how to not fly open, and something clicked yesterday and took it into tonight and had really good location with fastball [and] slider”, he said.

Now, the one million dollar question for both deGrom’s mechanics and the Rangers offense is whether or not they can take tonight’s effort and turn it into a consistent one.

“You gotta put your losses behind you and you gotta put your wins too,” Bochy said. “You gotta celebrate them and have a good time with it but you’re hoping this is something these guys can build on, build some confidence and hopefully get to where we’re getting consistent”.
