Today in White Sox Baseball (April 21, 2025) — Back to losing

The good news is that the White Sox were the only team in the organization to lose today.

The bad? Well, they were the only team in the organization to play today.

Boston Red Sox 4, Chicago White Sox 2
The White Sox offense hit the snooze alarm for its Patriot’s Day morning game in Boston, losing the game, the series, and the season series to the Other Sox.

Jonathan Cannon was hit hard, but to his credit he (with the help of timely defense in the infield and from Michael A. Taylor in right) sidestepped major damage despite Boston seeing his pitches really well. As for the bats, well at least ex-Red Sox Andrew Benintendi got up in time, and on the right side of the bed, knocking out two of Chicago’s five hits, including a homer.

Pregame, the White Sox lost southpaw starter — the best of the rotation in the early going — likely forever, as he moved straight past GO and directly to the 60-day IL. The White Sox are 5-16, on pace for just 37 wins, and today’s injury news makes the challenge of surpassing last season’s 41 wins all the harder.
