TJ Edwards Is A Bear For Two More Years

The Chicago Bears are on the cusp of the most important season in the history of their franchise. With a new head coach, a franchise quarterback, and a defense that ranks near the top of the NFL; this team is ready to stop the ridicule from years past. This team is ready to turn the corner, and create a culture that is known for winning.

To do this, they have started to reward various members of their roster for their top-notch performance on the field. First; it was Kyler Gordon, who the team signed to a three-year, $40 million extension ($31.25 million guaranteed). And now…..it’s the Captain’s turn.

Edwards, for those of you who are unaware, is entering his third year in Chicago after spending four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. In his first two years with the Bears, he was able to put up a stat-line that consisted of;

34 G, 284 Tackles, 6.5 Sacks, 4 INTs, 10 PDs

He has been one of the driving forces of this defense, helping Tremaine Edmunds defend the middle from sideline to sideline. His stellar ability to tackle in the open field, and to turn himself into a pivotal part of almost every single play, is something that has turned this veteran into a fan favorite on this squad.

Not only that; his strength and speed at the line makes him a TERROR to opposing offensives. Just look at how he BULL-RUSHED poor Kareem Hunt on this play.

Ryan Poles will now be able to sit back comfortably, knowing that one of the most important pieces of his defense is secured until after the 2027 season. But the question is……who deserves the next extension? Kevin Byard? Jaquan Brisker? Andrew Billings? Chris Williams?

Who knows! But all I know is…..I think we need to keep TJ for as long as we can. This was a great move by Poles and co., and it will surely benefit this squad during a time where they need him the most. But in the end, as always…..what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
