2025 Sox Populi Top Prospect countdown: Nos. 11-15

Our Sox Populi staff combines their prospect lists each offseason, coming up with the Top 100 players in the system. We’ll be summarizing and counting them up here, five at a time, leading up to the regular season.

15
Jeral Perez
Shortstop
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers
Baseball Cube Rating 69.50
Simple WAR 2.4
The depressing news is that in all likelihood, with Miguel Vargas floundering and Alexander Albertus still hurt, Perez is the only possible payoff left from last summer’s lopsided blockbuster that sent away Erick Fedde, Michael Kopech and Tommy Pham. The good news? Perez is really good. He’s adept at either middle infield spot and mashes like a corner player. Well young for level, Jeral’s aggressive placement on our list is not speculative in the least.

14
Ky Bush
Left-Handed Starter
Chicago White Sox
Baseball Cube Rating 47.83
Simple WAR 2.1
Haven’t had enough bad news? Bush, who was brilliant in Double-A and poised to contribute in the majors for all of 2025, is currently sitting out the season after Tommy John surgery. By the time he returns, he could find himself buried on the southpaw starter depth chart.

13
Chase Meidroth
Shortstop
Worcester Red Sox (Red Sox Triple-A)
Baseball Cube Rating 59.00
Simple WAR 5.5
Meidroth is the third-rated prospect from the Garrett Crochet deal, behind catcher Kyle Teel and right fielder Braden Montgomery, but could well be the first in the majors. It was a mild surprise he was cut during training camp, as the infielder had a fantastic Triple-A season in the Boston org last summer and has little left to prove. He’s an on-base machine; the White Sox need hitters on base. The math adding up to a productive 2025 in the majors seems pretty simple from here.

12
Brooks Baldwin
Shortstop
Chicago White Sox
Baseball Cube Rating 60.63
Simple WAR 3.5
Baldwin, no matter what he does in his MLB career, will never have as thrilling a climb in professional baseball as he did in 2024. The 2022 12th-rounder took an aggressive assignment to Double-A start the year and laughed in its face, spent a quick week in Charlotte killing the ball and looking like an ascendant superstar, and landed in Chicago with time to spare in the summer. Injury and the whirlwind run to the majors caught up with him a bit (.211/.250/.316), but Baldwin is healthy and back for a full season in 2025.

11
Bryan Ramos
Third Baseman
Chicago White Sox
Baseball Cube Rating 58.13
Simple WAR 0.2
If you thought the White Sox promoted only pitchers straight from Double-A to the majors, opting to bypass the arms-dangerous Trust Field in Charlotte, Ramos proves otherwise. That said, his promotion last year was curious, and beyond his initial week in the majors, a bit unfortunate. The third baseman-possibly-transitioning-to-left-field is an important clubhouse presence. If his cranky elbow allows, 2025 will be his chance to prove himself an important diamond presence.
