4 Biggest Surprises During Early Portion of MLB Season
The 2025 MLB season is officially underway and many different aspects have caught our attention.
Whether it is different teams or players, there have been plenty of surprises — both good and bad — to this point of the season.
Below, check out five major surprises around the league this season.
The Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles are two years removed from a 100-win season. Last year, Baltimore finished with 90+ wins but failed to find postseason success either year. Now, they might not have to worry about it with the start they are off to. An up-and-coming Orioles team arrived quicker than expected but have completely fallen off at 13-23 to start the year. This was not expected coming into the season.
The Rise of Gabriel Arias
The Cleveland Guardians might have found their next stud. Gabriel Arias has been given chances over the last three years but has exploded early on this year. He is currently batting .287 with a .339 on-base percentage. This has been a major step up in 35 games this season. At 25 years old, Arias is looking like a future piece for the Guardians.
The Fall of Cody Bellinger
Cody Bellinger revitalized a bit in Chicago but that has not continued in the Bronx. He was traded to the New York Yankees in the offseason as the team attempted to find an outfielder to replace Juan Soto. So far, Bellinger has been a big disappointment. He is batting .215 with five home runs and 20 RBI. At this point, the Yankees have decisions to make about Bellinger moving forward.
The Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves came into the season with injuries but no one saw an 0-7 start. Now, the surprise is almost over as the Braves are within one game of .500 at 18-19. The Braves will still likely contend in the National League but the start is one that is hard to forget. Atlanta sat at 3-10 but have since went 15-9.
