3 Potential Landing Spots for Kirk Cousins in a Trade
There is obvious trade speculation surrounding Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.
The Falcons used a premiere pick on Michael Penix Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft. After finishing the season strong, it looks as though the young lefty will get the chance to be the starter moving forward. As if this was not enough, Cousins was absent from OTAs on Tuesday.
Put it all together and trade talks will begin to heat up. While many teams have their quarterbacks in place heading into June, there are still some options to make a move for an experienced veteran like Cousins.
Below, check out three teams that could be interested in making a move for Cousins.
3. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are an interesting case here for Cousins. This was more likely before the 2025 NFL Draft but let’s be real — the Browns might not have found its future franchise player. Cleveland drafted both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders this year. Deshaun Watson remains on the shelf while Joe Flacco is back in the mix. Flacco is not prepared to be a starter while the young options are both works in progress. Counsins could be a bridge to Sanders or Gabriel moving forward.
2. New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints received news that Derek Carr would be retiring following an injury. The Saints drafted Tyler Shough out of Louisville to compete with Spencer Rattler for the starting job. With Carr out of the mix, the Saints could opt for a veteran to lead the charge this season. Shough, at 25 years old, is seasoned with six years in college but might need time to develop in the NFL. Cousins could be the one-year bridge that the Saints need moving forward.
1. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be at the top of many of these quarterback lists. As of now, the Steelers seem to be waiting for Aaron Rodgers. If this does not come to fruition, Cousins could be the pivot. Pittsburgh currently has Mason Rudolph as the starter with Will Howard coming in as a rookie. Skylar Thompson is also in the mix. The bottom line is, there is no quarterback in Pittsburgh. It will be interesting to see where the Steelers go for a quarterback when the time comes.
