3 Keys To An LSU Baseball Game 7 Regional Win
College Baseball’s regional weekend has been filled with Cinderella stories and top teams getting pushed to and over the brink.
Unfortunately, the LSU Tigers could not make themselves an exception.
With an opportunity to clinch a spot in the Super Regionals on Sunday night, LSU got the matchup they wanted… or so they thought.
No. 4 seed Little Rock took down No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist to set up a regional final with the Tigers.
After having already taken down the Trojans in the opening game of the tournament, LSU scored three quick runs on Sunday, and it looked like the Tigers would cruise to the Super Regionals.
However, Little Rock had other plans as they stormed back to take down the Tigers by a resounding 10-4 final.
Now, LSU will play with its season on the line on Monday night with a winner-takes-all rematch against the Trojans.
Looking for a near-complete turnaround, let’s break down three keys to a Tigers Game 7 victory tonight.
1. Zac Cowan and Casan Evans Come To Play – After being some of LSU’s best pitchers all season long, it seems nearly impossible that Cowan and Evans don’t factor into this game tonight after having not pitched to this point in the regional.
Last night, LSU tried to clinch the regional with an early combo of Jaden Noot and Chase Shores, but couldn’t do so.
Tonight, they will need to get strong performances from the likes of Cown and Evans if they want to live to play another day.
2. Limit The Walks – Last night, LSU pitchers walked a season high 11 batters. That can’t happen if you want to win baseball games.
As has been proven, the Little Rock Trojans aren’t a team that can’t take advantage of mistakes. With many hot hitters, if LSU gives Little Rock even a little breathing room, they can take advantage.
3 Build On An Early Lead – LSU jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead last night but watched it wither away.
Tonight, if the Tigers manage to jump out early, they have to put the game away. As is the case with all teams looking for an upset, the longer they stay in the game, the more of a chance they have to win.
