2025 Texas Football: Season Preview, Schedule And Predictions
2024 SEASON-IN-REVIEW
Record: 13-3, Loss vs. Ohio State in College Football Semifinal (28-14)
the Longhorns began the season 6-0 before its first loss to Georgia. The team finished with three losses all season with two coming to Georgia — the second coming in the SEC Championship Game. Texas entered the College Football Playoff and was able to make a run to the semifinals, taking down Clemson and Arizona State in the first two games.
OFFENSE: The Arch Manning Era is Here
The Longhorns will officially turn to Arch Manning in 2025. Quinn Ewers is in the NFL and the Manning era is here.
Manning showed flashes during time he got against the likes of UTSA and Mississippi State. The question is, how will he look over the course of an entire season? His upside is incredible as he enters as one of the Heisman favorites. Manning can use his legs to extend plays and make any throw on the field.
Manning will be working behind a retooled offensive line. DJ Campbell is the lone starter returning but others have been waiting in the wings. Trevor Goolsby will step into a starting role at tackle. The 6-foot-4, 326-pound sophomore will be joined by Neto Umeozulu.
In the backfield, Quintrevion Wisner returns as one of the best backs in the nation. He rushed for 1,064 yards and five touchdowns last season. Wisner also caught 44 passes last season. The depth at running back is also strong with CJ Baxter returning following an injury last season.
Matthew Golden might be gone on the outside but Ryan Wingo returns as a deep-ball threat. DeAndre Moore scored seven touchdowns last season. Kaliq Lockett comes in as one of the best receiving prospects in the nation and will make an immediate impact within the offense.
DEFENSE: The Longhorns Are as Good as Any Team
Every good defense needs a leader on the field and Anthony Hill Jr. fits the bill. The linebacker totaled 113 tackles, 16.5 for loss, eight sacks, and four forced fumbles. He is one of the top backers in the nation with others coming into their own as well.
UTSA transfer Trey Moore comes to Austin after totaling 46 tackles for loss in three years. Liona Lefau will step into an extended role as well after getting the chance to develop.
The secondary took hits when some major producers went to the NFL but also return veterans. Malik Muhammad will be a draft pick at the cornerback position, totaling eight pass breakups last season. Michael Taffe is the top safety on the team after being a starter during the Longhorns’ run last season.
The defensive line will have to develop quickly. Moore comes as a boost while Ethan Burke brings some experience. Colin Simmons will be a major X-factor. If he can continue to rise, the Longhorns will be dangerous at all three levels.
