2025 NFL Preview: New York Giants Season Outlook, Schedule & Prediction
2025 NEW YORK GIANTS SEASON PREVIEW
It was another disastrous season for the New York Giants in 2024. Daniel Jones started the season 2-8 before being let go with the keys being handed to Drew Lock. It was a three-win season and the worst in franchise history for New York. Will this season be better? It is hard to be worse but there are few reasons to be hopeful in 2025.
OFFENSE
It is a transition year under center for the Giants after the disastrous end for Daniel Jones.
The Giants brought in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Wilson will likely get the nod early on as Dart continues to develop at the next level.
Is Dart the next franchise quarterback? It seems like a stretch following a forced move in the first round of the draft.
The lone benefit for the Giants, and it is a big one, is Malik Nabers. As a rookie, Nabers solidified his role as a top-end wide receiver. Entering year two, he is among the league’s best on the outside. Nabers will get a majority of targets with Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton being unreliable options within the offense.
In the backfield, Tyrone Tracy took over as the starter last season and looked the part. Early in camp, rookie Cam Skattebo has impressed, giving the offense another option out of the backfield.
Along the offensive line, there are many question marks. Andrew Thomas is a top-tier left tackle but struggled with injuries. On the other side, Jermaine Eluemenor is another strong option when he is on the field. As good as the tackles could be, the Giants struggle on the interior. John Michael Schmitz is a young center who was inconsistent last season. Jon Runyan was a liability last season while Marcus Mbow will compete for the spot.
The Giants will have to play low-scoring games against a loaded schedule this season if they want to win more than three games.
DEFENSE
The key to low-scoring games is keeping the defense in good shape.
The Giants made the easy selection at No. 3 by selecting Abdul Carter. The Penn State edge rusher has look dynamic in camp with great athleticism and elusiveness. Carter did not fill a major need but New York added arguably the best player in the draft to pair with Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
On the interior, Dexter Lawrence solidifies the front. He is a big body in the middle who can stuff the run and get to the quarterback at will. Lawrence finished with nine sacks last season.
The secondary has been poor for the Giants in recent years and this was a point of emphasis during the offseason. The Giants let Xavier McKinney walk last year and the ramifications were severe. New York signed Javon Holland to join Tyler Rubin at the safety position. Deonte Banks has not looked like a No. 1 corner in the league but will likely get one more chance. Paulson Adebo came in free agency to start opposite Banks.
The linebackers will look the same with Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden. Okereke was the model of consistency last year for a Giants’ defense that needed any sense of positivity.
