2025 NFL Preview: Houston Texans Season Outlook, Schedule & Prediction
2025 HOUSTON TEXANS SEASON PREVIEW
It was a slight down year for C.J. Stroud in year two but he was more than capable leading the Houston Texans back to the postseason. Houston won the AFC South with a record of 10-7 and left some wins on the table. It was an inconsistent year for the Texans in 2024 and that is a major point of emphasis heading into a new season.
OFFENSE
The Texans hope to get the rookie version of Stroud back in 2025.
Last season, he did not completely fall apart but struggled with turnovers at times. The offensive line will be compromised after Houston traded Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders. Cam Robinson taking over on the left side is less than ideal with Trent Brown on the right. The Texans also lost two guards in Shaq Mason and Kenyon Green.
It is a rebuilt offensive line and that could be a problem for Houston. Where the offense will not have a problem is the skill positions.
Nico Collins is among the best receivers in the league. When healthy, he is a huge difference maker for the offense, which lost both Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell (injury). The Texans added Christian Kirk on the outside to work opposite Collins while drafting Jaylin Noel.
The ground game got even stronger with Nick Chubb signing a one-year deal. He joins Joe Mixon in what is now a loaded backfield.
DEFENSE
The defense was the main reason why the Texans returned to the postseason. It hopes to be a strength once again after coming in at sixth in the league in total defense.
The pass rush is expected to be dominant once again. Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson make up one of the top duos in the NFL after combining for 23 sacks last season. Darrell Taylor signed on as well with Denico Autry also being a depth piece.
The secondary played well last season too. Derek Stingley signed a lucrative extension this offseason. Kamari Lassiter has turned into one of the star corners as well with Jalen Pitre giving the team more to rely on.
CJ Gardner-Johnson was acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to bolster the secondary further. He was been dealing with an injury during camp and would be a big blow if he were lost.
In the middle of the field, Azeez Al-Shaair is back after being a major factor in stopping the group game.
